An-Aesthetic-h2o An Investigation into an Abstract Reality

The surface of water represents a line between elemental worlds. This line however does not exist on a physical level, (there are no lines in nature) it is merely where one element stops and another begins. It could be refered to as either a separation or a space where two worlds meet. The reflective ability of this space or separation depends on qualities and factors inherent in both elements such as, opacity, translucency and transparency (water) and light, wind and wheather conditions (air) These combined with the physical environment, both above and below the surface make the possibility of reflective imagery rich and nearly infinite. This imagery I see as a form of natural abstraction, for it re-enterprets reality in a manner that is consistant with it's nature. Much like a painter would.

Abstract: (of art) achieving its effect by grouping shapes and colours in satisfying patterns rather than by the recognizable representation of physical reality (Oxford Dictionary)

This imagery attracts me because it strives to illustrate the abstract nature of detail and how it inspires comment on it's environment. Any point of focus is in essence both a world in itself and a detail of what surrounds it. My photographic investigations have taken me to locations all over the world to chronicle the unique quality of this imagary. Though not always apparent immediatly I find that if I look hard enouph and pursue my instincts, sooner or later I'll find some photographic treasure.
